Diagnostic & Imaging Services

The Department of Radiology at Prashanth Hospitals offers diagnostic imaging services in Chennai using modern imaging technology. Scans help doctors see inside the body, so they can find health problems, confirm a diagnosis and check how a condition is responding to treatment.

Our radiology team performs each scan with care, accuracy and patient comfort in mind.

How Our Imaging Services Help Patients

  • All major scans in one place: CT, MRI, ultrasound, X Ray and mammography are available within the hospital, so patients do not have to visit different centres for different scans.
  • Clear images for better decisions: High resolution images help our doctors see fine details, which supports accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Linked with hospital care: Since the radiology department is part of the hospital, your scan results can be used directly by your treating doctor to plan the next step in your care.
  • Comfort and guidance: Our team explains what will happen before each scan and helps you feel at ease during the test.

Our Imaging Services

CT Scan (Computed Tomography)

A CT scan uses X Rays and a computer to create detailed cross sectional pictures of the body, like looking at thin slices.

  • Helps detect tumours, internal injuries and brain related conditions
  • Often used in emergencies, as the scan is quick
  • Some CT scans need a contrast dye to show blood vessels and organs more clearly

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)

An MRI uses a strong magnet and radio waves to create detailed pictures of organs, soft tissues and joints. It does not use X Rays.

  • Commonly used for brain, spine, heart and joint imaging
  • Very useful for looking at soft tissues such as nerves, muscles, ligaments and discs
  • The scan takes longer than a CT, and patients need to lie still inside the machine

Ultrasound (Sonography)

Ultrasound uses sound waves to create pictures of organs inside the body. It does not use radiation.

  • Used to check the baby’s growth and health during pregnancy
  • Used for abdominal scans of the liver, gall bladder, kidneys and other organs
  • Helps doctors guide needles safely during certain procedures

X Ray (Digital Radiography)

X Ray is the most commonly used imaging test. Digital X Rays produce clear images quickly.

  • Used to check bones, the chest and other parts of the body
  • Helps find fractures, infections and lung problems

Mammography

Mammography is a special X Ray of the breast.

  • Helps in early detection of breast cancer and other breast problems
  • Used as part of routine breast health screening for women. Your doctor will guide you on when to start and how often to repeat it, based on your age and risk.

Advanced Imaging Capabilities

  • High resolution imaging for precise diagnosis
  • Vascular testing to check blood flow in the arteries and veins, without needles or cuts
  • Ultrasound guided biopsies, where ultrasound helps the doctor take a tissue sample safely from the right spot
  • Fetal medicine imaging to check the baby’s growth and development during pregnancy
  • Cardiac CT and Cardiac MRI to assess the heart’s structure and health

Your Safety During Imaging

  • Radiation: CT scans, X Rays and mammography use a small amount of radiation. Our team uses only what is needed to get clear images. Ultrasound and MRI do not use radiation.
  • Pregnancy: If you are pregnant or think you might be, tell the staff before any scan. Some scans may be changed or avoided.
  • Metal in the body: Before an MRI, tell the team if you have a pacemaker, metal implants, clips, stents or any metal fragments in your body. The strong magnet can affect some of these.
  • Contrast dye: If your scan needs contrast dye, tell the team about any allergies, kidney problems or diabetes medicines you take.

Preparing for Your Scan

Our team will give you exact instructions for your scan. These general tips help:

  • Some abdominal scans need you to avoid food for a few hours
  • Some pelvic ultrasounds need a full bladder, so you may be asked to drink water before the scan
  • Wear loose clothes, and remove jewellery, watches and hair clips before an MRI or X Ray
  • For mammography, avoid using powder, cream or deodorant on the chest and underarms on the day of the test
  • Bring your previous scan reports and prescriptions

After Your Scan

Once your scan is complete, the images are reviewed by our radiology team and a report is prepared. Your doctor will explain the findings and guide you on the next step, whether that is treatment, more tests or regular follow up care.
